I started volunteering in radio in 1985 and was subsequently hired as the Jazz Music Director for an NPR affiliate in northern California. It was a renaissance for jazz as reissues of long out of print recordings were coming out on Compact Disc, but more importantly several labels, including some of the majors, began issuing new jazz releases. Serious Jazz was making a comeback and it was an exciting time to be on the air. In this hour, we will dig some of the sounds that I spun on the airwaves in a time that seems only like yesterday.
