Jazz is a continual music reinvention of the past and present with an eye to the future. With the plethora of classic jazz recordings spanning nine decades, it's sometimes easy to forget that each jazz performance is a freshly minted and unique experience. It does not matter the date, if you listen to enough conversations you will hear someone declare that jazz is dead and there is nothing more that can be said. To that I respond with this hour of music, freshly created and released over the past few months, in defiance of the notion that jazz has run out of things to say. We'll hear echoes of the past combined with today's sensibilities and an eye on where we are going next.
