During the 1980s and 1990s a contemporary urban sound came on the seen driven in part by the early work of Inner City Broadcasting. This was The Quiet Storm, a smooth, electric, funky crossover of jazz, soul, and fusion that would dominate the "jazz" airwaves for a couple decades. Although it was definitely commercial in its endeavor, there were some artistic achievements that happened along the way. This format has long since been relegated to the HD-2 channels of FM broadcasting and streaming media, so in this hour we will explore the sounds of the The Quiet Storm.
